Both of Lorettas parents died of cancer by the time she was ten years old. Sister Caryl returned to Fond du Lac in 2000 to work first as an employed nurse and then a volunteer CNA at Hospice Home of Hope. She then accepted the position of chaplain at Providence Hospital in Mobile providing pastoral care and presence for seven years (1992-1999). Her final years of educational ministry were spent at St. Michaels Parish in Plymouth, Indiana, where she worked with the kindergarten class and directed religious education programs for children and adults. She became a Religious Education Director and a Pastoral Minister for 19 years in Arizona, California, and New Mexico, especially cherishing her time on the Gila River Reservation.
